Call of Duty: History of the War-Based Video Game

By Tonja Singh

Any player who is a fan of FPS (First Person Shooter, or FPS games with first person view) may surely have tried at least once a title linked to the most famous brands published by Activision Blizzard. This article will deepen the story that led to prevail Call of Duty as an icon of the games of its kind.
Birth of the brand and game mechanics
Call of Duty, better known among fans by the acronym COD, was founded back in 2003 as a war game set during the Second World War. It saw its gameplay divided into different campaigns: initially in the role of paratrooper soldier Martin who must undertake a series of missions that will provide a substantial contribution to the defeat of the German army. So much for the single-player mode: in the first chapters of the brand, it also adds the ability to undertake multi-player games, such as offering deathmach challenges (fighting to the death), search and destroy, material recovery and defense of headquarters. Present from the outset is a wide selection of maps, a game that is offered by custom.
Evolution at the height of success
Given the success of the first chapter, it was not long before Activision decided to publish a successor in 2005 out of Call of Duty 2, which brings some improvements and innovations such as the replacement of the bar that shows the residual energy of the player, favor of a system of damage that disrupts the gameplay (reduced visibility from the blood, slowed movements, impaired accuracy and so on).
The return of the multiplayer, much admired in the first chapter, is back stronger than a server capable to accommodate up to 8 players and new maps, items. Besides the consent of the fans, the game did get positive reviews from many trade publications. The history of COD is still going up to the height of success with the fourth chapter, Modern Warfare, and the next fifth chapter called World at War. With the success of the fourth, it created the successor, Modern Warfare 2 which resumes gameplay and features, and BlackOps which attained the record of best-selling game of all time in 2010.
Spin-offs and future projects
The positive reaction of the masses has led to the creation of numerous spin-off titles that do not closely link to the events narrated in the official titles of the series, but still making full use of the established system of play. It is also planned for November of 2011, the third output of Modern Warfare, which will add to the chapters already released, bringing the number of Call of Duty products to a total of twelve titles.

WITCHER 2

By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Akshay_Kumar_Rana]Akshay Kumar Rana

Indulge in the Dark Arts

The Witchers 2 is a stylish role-playing game, weaving deceit, sorcery and sex into an enjoyable plot.

Developed by polish developer CD Projekt, The Witchers 2 takes place nearly six months after the first game. The prologue kickoff in a prison, where Geralt of Rivia, our protagonist, is being interrogated in connection with the murder of the King. Then on, the game oscillates between Geralt's prison break and the events that led to his imprisonment, where you find out that he was wrongly accused of murder.

As a role playing game, The Witchers 2 is more linear than games such as The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion or Fallout 3, but it does not make up with tons of moral choices that affect the outcome. In between missions that propel the plot forward, there is lots to indulge in, from hunting monsters to gambling, arm wrestling and brawling. Even though this is a European RPG, voice acting I solid and all the cast member members execute their parts with aplomb. The story is also interesting, weaving politics, deceit, sex and violence into one enjoyable plot that can be understood and appreciated by newcomers.

Unlike the first game, The Witchers 2 plays more like a conventional third person action title, with the camera rooted firmly behind Geralt. Combat also takes place in real time, which means you can't pause the action to queue up attack a la Dragon Age.

MAGIC ALL THE WAY

Playing as a 'Witchers 2' has advantages, one of which is proficiency in the dark arts. This allows Geralt to master magical signs and use them to his advantages in battle. You can set your enemies on fire fling them off cliff using telekinessis, set magical traps, or even hypnotise them to become temporary allies. Playing a Witcher is empowering, no doubt, but this doesn't mean you are invincible. Even on the normal difficulty, Geralt can die extremely easily. This is party due to the fact that health potions cannot be consumed during combat.

Inventory Management

We had a minor gripe with the inventory system though. Most games allow players to compare traders wares with their equipped weapons, as well as those present in their inventory. In the Witchers 2, you can only compare purchasable weapons with those in your inventory. We also found it odd that Geralt was never penalised for strolling into people's houses and taking their belongings.

Visually, this game is sublime, and will bring even the most powerful rigs even the most powerful rigs to their knees. The game world has been painstakingly designed and every chapter brings with it diverse and scenic locations to explore/

Our Verdict

The game does have a short coming. It can be a bit intimidating to newcomers with its erratic difficulty levels levels and steep learning curve. Other issues involve combat, the inventory system and annoying segments with brain dead friendly Al. But all that's balanced out by a solid adventure, backed by stellar production value, intense and challenging gameplay, diverse quests, and an engaging plot. Red Orchestra 2

------------------------------RELEASED: 18th September -------------------------

Red orchestra 2 was finally releases about a week ago, been playing it for a while and an really enjoying it. After liking the beta, but being really annoyed with some of the major bugs, I was expecting the fully finished released game to have been fully finished and polished. The game was basically the same as the beta, no story, same weapons, personal stats dint work, rankings were bugged and the exclusive pre-order weapons were not working either! But after a few updates, most of that was fixed, since that I've really enjoyed Red Orchestra 2.

------------------------------BETA: 10th September 2011-------------------------

I recently pre-ordered the steam digital deluxe Edition of Red Orchestra 2: Heroes of Stalingrad. With the pre-order, the limited beta is include, only those who have pre-ordered the game will get the beta. The games been pretty good so far, obviously it's a beta, so the full game will be much more polished, but there are many bugs and glitches in the beta already. Besides from that, the game is very good. When playing, it feels like your in a movie, the music added with the epic firefights makes the game even better. The guns & classes are really good, they are balanced. Another thing that stands out to me are the player models, they're detailed and look very realistic. I am glad I've bought it and am looking forward to when the full game is released on the 14th of September, I'd advise you to go buy it, check it out at the steam store.

Deus Ex: Human Revolution - Review

By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Jason_A_Flowers]Jason A Flowers

Deus Ex: Human Revolution is the prequal to the cult classic that released ten years ago, Deus-Ex. Human Revolution takes place some twenty-seven years prior to the events of Deus Ex. This sci fi action adventure game was developed by Eidos Montreal and published by Square Enix for the PC, Playstation 3 and Xbox 360. It released August 23 and is rated Mature.

The story of Deus Ex: Human Revolution was pretty good despite starting off kinda slow. You play the role of protagonist Adam Jensen ex SWAT for the Detroit Police Department and now top security man for David Sarif of Sarif Industries. Sarif Industries is a mega corporation which creates and manufactures Augmentation prosthetics. Think of robotic cyber implants for the human body and you have Augmentations.

Early in the game Sarif Industries is attacked by a group of Black Ops mercenaries. Jensen is caught by surprise and almost killed while trying to protect lead Sarif scientist Megan Reed. Reed also happens to be Jensen's girlfriend. Sarif Industries saves Jensen from death by fully Augmenting his body (without his permission). Six months has past and Jensen goes back to Sarif Industries where he is on a quest for answers. Jensen travels around the world in his quest taking him to Shanghai, Montreal and even Singapore. The story has a deep undertone of moral questioning regarding the use of Augmentations on both sides of the fence relating to people who has them and the ones who don't.

The visual art style was truly impressive while walking around cities. The CGI sequences where graphically impressive as well. Every city you visit appears alive on so many levels. The neon signs, the people smoking and chatting. Deus Ex: Human Revolution has a deep enthralling atmosphere thanks to the visual and gameplay design.

The sound design was really good. The sci-fi themed orchestra tunes created a drab dark cyber punk world where people with augmentations live in chaos. The sound design and voice over work was pretty good also. There is so much voice dialog in this game that i heard the same voices for different characters.

The gameplay of Deus Ex: Human Revolution starts and ends with Jensen's Augmentation tree. Lets say you want to play Deus Ex as a shooter. You would earn XP points while hacking, talking and completing story missions like usual. When you earn enough XP you can assign a Praxis Point to specific augmentations like Jensen's arms for shooting guns with more aim and accuracy. If you rather sneak around and hack computers there are specific augmentations you can modify for those gameplay elements as well.

There are plenty of guns to play around with like pistols, assault rifles, laser guns, plasma rifles, rocket launchers and shotguns. You can also modify guns by either buying or finding upgrade kits. Upgrades can range from silencers, ammo capacity increase and other perks. The only thing i really didn't enjoy about Deus Ex: Human Revolution was the boss fights. The entire game is about exploration and choice except for boss battles. I feel that every boss fight was shoved into the game and simply doesn't fit.

No multiplayer for Deus Ex: Human Revolution only single player which lasted me twenty hours. There are collectibles such as newspapers, books, e-books and e-mails. You can play through the game a few times in different ways such as stealth or shooting etc. There is alote of replay value for this game.

This is a great game even with its glaring faults. Matter of fact its probably the best sci-fi cyber punk themed game i played this entire generation. Deus Ex: Human Revolution has a really thick atmosphere that a gamer can get lost in. I know i did.
